Wellness Exams
An annual exam is a perfect opportunity to discuss maintaining a healthy lifestyle and minimizing health risks for both men and women. A wellness exam includes screening for risks of chronic disease, evaluation of the patient, and health counseling appropriate for the age of the patient for prevention of chronic disease. We recommend annual exams for all ages. The physical exam portion of the exam is based on age. We will also evaluate your pulse, blood pressure, body mass index, and weight. We will discuss important preventative measures that you should be taking in order to screen for disease processes. We will also order blood work to check blood counts, liver and kidney function, thyroid and other hormones.
Thyroid Testing
Dr. Darling is Certified in Advanced Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy and uses current research methods endorsed by Dr. Neil Rouzier, MD, to more actively manage thyroid health and treatment that is based on maximizing therapy for each patient to treat symptoms not just a “number” on your lab results.
Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) test measures the amount of TSH in the blood and is considered the most reliable way to find a thyroid problem. If the TSH test is abnormal, other thyroid hormone tests such as a T3 or T4 may be done.
Insulin Resistance
Insulin resistance is one of the most common hormonal disorders in women. There are many signs and symptoms that a woman with Insulin resistance may experience. Since Insulin resistance affects many areas of the body and cannot be diagnosed with one test alone. Symptoms vary from woman to woman, Insulin resistance has been known as the “Silent Killer” and early diagnosis of Insulin resistance is important, as it has been linked to an increased risk for developing several medical conditions including weight gain, mood swings, insulin resistance, type 2 Diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and heart disease and stroke. Insulin resistance is found in females as young as 6 years old.
